Steve Doig

 Having the opportunity to hear from Steve Doig was really wonderful.   Clearly the future of journalism is one that has an ever changing face, but it was reassuring to hear again that there will always be a need for it, especially the watchdog variety.  I think Steve's comment that without WD journalism, the government, organizations, etc. are apt to do things they wouldn't do if they knew someone was holding them accountable... or at least watching them.

    I was inspired by Doig's talk to guide my students toward investigative journalism. I've had past students ask me about doing that, but I wasn't sure what they'd be allowed to write about. Doig gave some really good, practical tips. I think a couple of his suggestions will really get their story ideas flowing.
