The session on story ideas was an important eye opener for me, after putting out only two issues of our student newspaper in which we never stepped foot off the campus. Localizing a bigger story, "enterprise" stories, story mapping. All of these ideas will help us make our quarterly print paper into something students might find interesting, beyond looking for their own photos or their names in print. Steve Elliott suggested that students can get a good idea by reading other student newspapers, because if it worked someplace else, maybe it will work on my campus. Even though I see my Journalism club for such a short time each week, I think I can guide them to more interesting story ideas now. Maybe I can even have them do story mapping during one of our meetings at the beginning of the year.
