Listen to Kristin Gilger: She may save your job

This was this the most unique session so far. I felt as though Kristin Gilger was talking directlty to me.

The relationship with my former principal ( he just announced his retirement) was strained. Upon reflection, I acknowledge that I could have handled things differentlty.

I plan to apply some of the strategies that I learned today from Kristin and Alan. As Kristin suggested, I will take the initiative by introducing myself and providing some background on the newspaper's history and success. I will  convey to this person that I am knoweledgable and competent. I will also make myself available for any questions or concerns he or she may have regarding content or editorial policy. I will also delicately establish my role as adviser. As Alan suggested, I will invite the new prinicipal to the newsroom. So, if I am in a position where the "difficult conversation" does arise, I can expect to be treated fairly.

  1. Hearing some of the concerns that other people have about their principals tells me two things: I should be grateful for the kind of principal I have and I should be doing everything in my power to cultivate the already positive relationship my staff has with him.
