I wanted to thank Alan for his levels of involvement at the institute thus far. It's been really nice to listen to his suggestions for streamlining and rebuilding our programs, for those of us who are in our first few years without a paddle. I look forward to utilizing much of his material he has shared but also look to modify for my own needs. This institute has been very helpful with the lineup of speakers.

I agree. Though I feel that many of Alan's practices are impossible for me at this point in my journalism program, many things will work for me in my limited way. And, I can see how I can aspire to grow the program into something closer to what he has shown us. It will depend a lot on the students, but I need to inspire them to aspire to greater things.
ReplyDeleteAs usual Alan was most helpful with his comments about time and class management. I have tried to get a 90-minute block for my newspaper, much as the English/Reading has for the Level 1 students. So far, NO GO!!!!!! But, i will make suggestions after this 2-week experience and show the advantages of more time for research, interviewing and editing. Much more student involvement also!!!
ReplyDeleteAlan has been a huge asset to the Institute. His success as a publications adviser inspires me to want to be better. I love the videos he showed us, made by his students, revealing all that goes on in his multimedia lab. I am definitely going to be doing some revamping of my classroom this summer. Thanks, Alan.
