Video day! It's supposed to be 110 degrees today and we are taking photos and videos of the Phoenix populous and their feelings about the heat. The crew is ready and grabbed the equipment, extra water; Steve took the temperature upon leaving the building-97 degrees and rising! The residents that we interviewed did not seem to be fazed by the heat which was surprising. In fact, the FedEx delivery guy loaded down with packages for the Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication replied, "only when it's OVER 110 and the sweat is pouring down my face do I think it's HOT!
The students from Arizona State University were clad in long pants and sweatshirts to combat the coolness of their classrooms, but they didn't bother to remove the their jackets when they left the building. They replied, "We've grown up here and are used to the heat." We continued to film the street, hot wind blowing, skateboards streaming down the middle of the road, a street scene very typical of any college town.
Our lady-friend scurrying back with her HOT coffee from Starbucks offered her observation, "I guess it should be iced coffee, but frankly, I only leave the office to get coffee in the afternoon and when I leave the building".
