Hello everyone!
My name is Sara Gonzales and I am going into my fourth year of advising. Time seems to fly in the journalism world, it seems just like yesterday that I was stepping into the classroom for the first time.
I am originally from Round Rock, Texas - right outside of Austin. I am an avid Yankees fan (partial season ticket holder) and run marathons in my spare time.
Currently, I am the adviser at Cypress Lakes High School. We had over 3,300 students this past year, and just had our first graduating class. We are rapidly growing, so like my school - I would like to see the publications grow to be the best they can possibly be. My school is also an economically disadvantaged school and has a high minority base. The majority of my students have lived at some point in Mexico.
I graduated from Texas State University- San Marcos with a degree in Mass Communications - Electronic Media and a minor in Photography. I absolutely miss school and am ready to go back to get my Masters. Prior to graduating, I moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, and was Executive Director Intern at the Clinton Foundation and Personal Photographer for Former President Clinton. It was an experience I absolutely loved and often think of going back to work in the political spectrum.
I am very excited about this program, however, I am very nervous at the same time. I have read each of your notes and am extremely impressed. I already feel behind in the grand scheme of things but can't wait to get to Phoenix.
I look forward to meeting each of you and going through this experience with each of you!
Sara
(Also - if anyone would like to go to a Diamondbacks game the first weekend against the Chicago White Soxs please let me know. One of my friends is a pitcher for the White Soxs, so I always enjoy a baseball game)
