Meeting with our mentors and getting constructive feedback on the first drafts of our stories was very beneficial today. I felt like a little kid soaking up the praise and listening closely to every bit of criticism. It was rewarding to finalize my story and see my fellow group members express relief and success as well. This assignment really helped me to realize what I need to ask of my students and how I can better guide them through a successful reporting and writing process. It also has made me more empathetic to their frustrations and better able to help them overcome obstacles.

ReplyDeleteHaving an example of learning through the "eyes of a student" has been extremely beneficial on many levels. The writing groups were a great concept that thrives on individualized support and coaching as an instructional model. I have recognized the same difficulties in the "eyes of my mentor" as I have felt myself and this was sincerely an eye-opening experience. Even though many of the presentations have been informational in design, the intent to strike a balance between lectures and labs have been evident.
ReplyDeleteI have student edit one another, but it has been a long time since I've done it myself. I found that it is more difficult than I remembered reading something in front of others and thinking through my comments. I generally have the piece in private, then talk to the person. Anybody else feel that is a better way? (Two of my team had given me theirs in advance, and it was a lot more satisfying.)
