Got Here!

Hello everyone. My name is JoAnn Augustine, and I am here in Phoenix having flown out of San Francisco. My school is brand new (American Canyon High School in the Napa Valley), and our population didn't generate enough journalism students for a class, so I'm advising the Journalism Club. We launched the newspaper, and published two editions. I expect to come away from the Reynolds Institute full of ideas for a class and frustrated that again next year I only have a club.  So, I'm hoping to run workshops after school to allow for more lessons. This year it was all about getting the paper created, so it was all inquiry based (If they had a question, I answered it!).

Ours is a tech high school, so we do a lot of technology lessons in all our classes. I've learned a lot in the process, and hope to add to that here too.

Our technology challenges in our new Mac Lab were significant. I hope our new Mac Lab has fewer bugs!

I've included a couple of photos of my students hard at work on the final issue of the year. The work was severely delayed by the students' focus on AP tests, so we published the final issue the day before the last day of school. Crazy.  And we had very few ads, so we managed to break even only by placing some ads from the Alliance (our Boosters Club).

I hope we learned a lot and we can remember it next August.
