WTF: What's the Font

Tracy Collins, senior director of operations at The Arizona Republic, showed us things about fonts that many of us never knew existed. The most important lesson learned is that font really does matter and that using the right font can save you an inch of space in your printed newspaper!

The lesson was technical but fun. I can't wait to show my students everything we learned about designing an effective newspaper. Things such as readability and font style are going to make my newspaper look a lot better.

  1. I loved the video depicting the fonts as personalities. It was ironic that Comic Sans, one of my all-time least favorite fonts and one that is on our short list of "banned" fonts, ended up being the hero that saves the day. Thanks for reposting the video.

Collins' presentation was very informative, and I especially liked the explanations regarding spacing, justification, and other formatting issues.
