Using Video to Create Multimedia Products

Brian Snyder's presentation on video was interesting because it's a skill I have very little experience with (and would like to gain more). I included this picture of Brian because I felt like his diagramming on the board showed his sports education. :) After his presentation we actually got to work with video cameras, which was very exciting. We felt like professionals, going out on campus with all our equipment.

We learned how important uncontrollable factors like wind and traffic can be when filming. The wind made our hair blow around like crazy and then we had to do a couple of retakes because of noisy vehicles driving by.

But one thing our group picked up was the enthusiasm for working with this type of media. We're all eager to take what we've learned back to our schools and help our students create multimedia packages, making them even more prepared and qualified for a modern world.

  1. I also really liked Brian's presentation. Of all of the forms of journalism we have covered, broadcast/film is the area where I feel most inexperienced. I feel as though I have a better idea of how to teach this material rather than just jumping in head first.

  2. I also benefitted greatly from Brian Snyder's presentation. I have never learned about how to create or edit a broadcast, but am expected to start doing it next year in my Journalism class. The instruction we received on how to shoot video, as well as the editing techniques using Final Cut were very helpful and are very exciting.

  3. Brian Snyder's instruction was quite effective. I have virtually no experience shooting and editing video. He addressed the class on editing as if everyone was a beginner. He was concise and to the point. Our class stayed on task and completed the assignment painlessly. I am going to apply the same methods of instruction when tackling the formidable task of teaching shooting/editing video next year. Thank you Brian.

  4. Our group had a lot of fun planning, shooting, and editing the short video assignment. We still have a little bit more work to do on it, but I was amazed at the ease of operating the camera and using the Final Cut Pro software. Already I can see that doing a weekly newscast at our small high school in the near future could be a very real possibility. All it would take is a few talented and willing individuals, plus a reasonable investment in equipment, and it could be done.
