Today the fellows attending the ASNE Reynolds Institute started working on their multimedia projects. Working in groups of three, they were instructed to cover the topic "Surviving the Heat" in video, still and story. The final product will be a 90-second video and 250 word story that the fellows will present next week.
The team of Kat Gurganus, Jessica Korinek and Emily Miller headed out with a number of ideas in mind. After being turned down for interview after interview they struck gold at the bus stop. Interviewing long-time residents, they got great tips on surviving the heat. They were told everything from wearing light colors to just staying inside.
Capturing the interviews on tape and getting B-roll footage was an experience. After an hour outside, the women sought shelter and cold water. They returned to the computer lab
and started piecing their video together.
As the clips came together they felt pleased with their work. The final product will take some time but they are on their way.
