How to Manage Your Boss
Kristin Gilger presented a fascinating talk on how to handle your boss this afternoon. She gave us some valuable tips that dealt with the three most important characteristics that a boss should have: competence, communication and compassion.
I wanted to share with my fellow Institute members a book I read last year that provides additional excellent insight into this area. It's called "Leading with Teacher Emotions In Mind" by Leithwood. Although for principals, it is helpful to teachers. It discusses how important the teacher's frame of mind is and their emotional state when facing their students each day. Students cannot be successful if their teacher's emotional state is off kilter. For those of you who need to, you might want to suggest that to your boss (or slip it anonymously into his box). It's an excellent read!
