Hi everyone,

My name is Kat Gurganus. I live and teach in Keller, Texas, right outside Ft. Worth. I just finished up my fourth year teaching at Keller High School. Next year I will teach journalism, newspaper, broadcast and freshmen English.

I am so blessed to have a job next year with the current situation in my district. I love teaching journalism and advising the newspaper. My passion is definitely print so I struggle with my broadcast class who thinks we should be SNL. I am hoping to learn more about editing and using broadcast with an online newspaper next year.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone in Arizona next week! See you soon.

  1. Hi Kat

I teach in DeSoto at the south end of the metroplex. I think we will have fun learning all the things we want to learn and bring back to our students.

I teach Beginning Journalism (9th grade) Journalism One (10-11), Basic and Advanced Photography, Adv. Journalism-Newspaper and Adv. Journalism Yearbook plus we have both a printed paper and an on-line paper.

Looking forward to seeing you there. When is your flight?

  2. Hi Kat,

I teach in Arlington and have heard a lot about the cuts Keller is making. My newspaper editor is on our debate team and she was telling me Keller cut their debate program. Yikes! I'm glad you survived though.

I'm interested in your broadcast class, do they only do broadcasts for online or do you have a TV station of sorts for the school?

I provide a couple of students every year to work with our district's broadcast program. It is purely volunteer and they anchor an online newscast once a week. It isn't much but it is something.

    Looking forward to meeting you.
