I'm Don Anderson and I live on the Oregon coast. We've been averaging about 55 degree highs May and the first few days of June, so Phoenix will be a shock to the system, even though I do love the desert.
The school I teach at is small, but is supportive of a school newspaper, The Jay, which is also our de facto community newspaper. We've transitioned over the last few years from a broadsheet to a super tab format, and now we are wanting to create a website to go along with our newspaper that we can be proud of as a class and a school.
Besides journalism I also teach AP Literature, college writing and photography. I also work for a great regional newspaper, The Daily Astorian as a part-time feature writer and photographer. I feel blessed to be doing what I love. I know my experience at the Reynolds Institute this summer will make me better at it.
I hope each of you has a great summer, and I look forward to meeting each of you and being challenged by you!

Thanks for the post, Don. My first AP stop was Hawaii, which had that nice near-the-ocean humidity. When I came to Phoenix to visit my folks, my lips would chap, my eyes would dry, etc., etc., until I acclimated. So yes, you may be in for a shock.
