Enjoy the Treats of Journalism!

This one may be reaching but here goes..... After working with some of the best journalism teachers from around the country, I feel I do not celebrate enough in my class.

We have small classes in Patterson Mill and I always struggle with the question 'How can we add more to our class?' I believe the answer came today in Alan's presentation when he said to make it fun.

Our school has many fun events and my students try and cover as many stories as possible... but we do not stop and congradulate ourselves enough. Celebrating like this would make it fun!

Tonight after handing in the rough copy of the story and working briefly on the website I got to celebrate with my favorite creme brulee. It felt good to enjoy the treats in life.

I need to share this with my students next year!

  1. Patty,
Every Monday, we play "Names in the News," a matching game that I create Sunday night using all the biggest names in the media that week. Over the weekend they watch TV news and read the papers so they can win the prize:: caramel chocolate chip cookies. They are baffled by how I put a caramel candy in the middle of each cookie (shhh...they're really Tollhouse). The winners always find a bag of cookies at their desks on Tuesday.
