AZ Republic

On Friday, June 17 we traveled to the Arizona Republic to get a tour of the building as well as participate in a meeting of editors from the paper to make decisions about the news stories that were to be put in the Friday edition of the newspaper.

It was interesting to see all the people that were involved in the "news machine" and it was great to see the inter-workings of the newspaper.  I had a great conversation with Arik Johnson, who is the ASU Multimedia Journalism Project Recruiter.  He works with student journalists who intern for Chanel 12 News.

He explained to me that students in the new age of journalism have to be able to do all levels of reporting; from creating the story, to editing the story, to shooting video, to posting the content online.  It was an eye opening experience to see how important it is to know all aspects of the job and that will definitely impact the way I teach my class.
