Today, Nick Oza from The New Republic came in to talk to us about the basics of photography. It reminded me of a photography course I took in college, where I was always in awe of the photos that my then professor had taken while he was a war photographer in Iraq and Bosnia.
However, Oza showed us the war in the United States - from illegal immigration, protests, to even talking about gangs.
His photos showed a variety of emotions and told a story of each subject.
While I always try to teach my students about the variations of photography, Oza made me look into photography in a new way. Its not just about sports photography, or student life. Seeing Oza take part of his subjects and the photostories are another way for students to get their information across.
I really liked his stories, and ideas and easily see myself bringing them back to my classroom.
GREAT SESSION!
